Connie Griffin's southern roots go back for generations. Born in Alabama, Connie spent her childhood there as well as Mississippi and Tennessee; her adolescence, teens, and early twenties were spent in Oklahoma. She relocated to New England in her late twenties. Connie is an experienced writing workshop facilitator and she now teaches, writes, and publishes in the field of creative nonfiction. She combines her interests in literary and cultural studies with feminist theory to address the cultural construction of gender as represented in creative nonfiction and in society. Her forthcoming book, To Tell the Truth: Practice and Craft in Narrative Nonfiction, due out next year with Longman Publishers, incorporates discussions of craft, practice strategies, and a collection of narrative nonfiction pieces. Connie received her B.A. from the University of Tulsa, her M.A. from Boston College, and her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Connie is a senior lecturer in the English department at Boston College and a visiting lecturer in the Journalism Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She lives in Western Massachusetts with her partner and her pooch.

David Hooks is a sixth generation southerner, growing up in rural east Texas in the 1960s and 70s.  His early “coming out” was in fits and starts, sharing with friends and co-workers, selectively.  Losing his partner to HIV/AIDS in 1990 and needing support, he decided to complete the process and create a "family" (of both blood and of friends) based on truth.  He attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a BA in Government, and a JD from the University of Houston Bates College of Law.  He is a published novelist and is active in his community in civic and volunteer work.  He is on the board of the Gay & Lesbian Fund of Vermont.  He currently focuses his time, energy, travel and communication efforts on issues relating to human rights and HIV/AIDS, locally and globally.
